Each year for the last 5, we set aside one week to give donations to the community rather than receive them— FREE WEEK. We look forward to this event all year and are truly happy to keep materials in use while offering a valuable resource to our friends and neighbors.

So, stop in today through Saturday, the 25th for tons of free building materials, freebies, door prizes, and yummy good stuff from our friends at BlueDot Donuts, PJ’s Coffee, Shake Sugary, Cake Cafe, Beaucoup Juice, and Mr. Snowball. 5 Car Break-Ins in 5 days in the 3900 Block of State Street Drive

An additional three cars were broken into on the 3900 block of State Street Drive overnight. That makes 5 cars since Tuesday that were all locked. There has been no sign of forced entry, and none of the alarms have gone off. The police who responded to my break-in have suggested thieves have an electronic device that is used by companies like Pop A Lock. As always, please report suspicious activity and keep all valuable items out of your cars.

Car Wash Man Not What He Seems

From a (very) concerned resident on State:

“Around 12:45 PM on Mother’s Day Sunday, an African-American man around 6 feet tall rang our doorbell in the 3300 block of State Street Drive. He had a bucket filled with materials to wash a car.

He asked me if I needed a car wash or help with anything around the house. When I declined he went on to the next house.

I felt something was strange about the whole thing and called the police to report it. About 10 minutes later a police officer came by my house to let me know that they found the man on Octavia Street.

The officer told me that the man was currently on parole. He is a known burglar in the area and had used the same excuse of washing cars and then broke into the homes later.

NOPD was able to talk with him and get a current address on file. I wanted to pass this along and remind everyone to please call the police (911) if you notice strange activity.”
