SSD Meeting Minutes - Spring 2012
We had a nice turnout last night — about 20 residents, from Vendome to Versailles, attended the SSD All-Neighbor Meeting held at Dominican High School. Speakers included Councilmember Susan Guidry, NOPD Community Coordinator Sgt. Ernie Joseph and Quality of Life Officer Wilfred Eddington. We received a bunch of home energy saving tips from David Cody at Green Coast Enterprises, as well as Kerry Jones, Customer Service Manager at Entergy. Finally, the group learned all about security cameras from ProjectNOLA director Bryan Lagarde.
Some highlights:
- NOPD says “Call 911” whenever you observe anyone unusual “cruising the neighborhood” — they are often casing homes and vehicles as potential targets.
- Ready to get a surveillance camera setup for under $300? Call Bryan Lagarde at 504-298-9117. WE NEED MORE CAMERAS IN THE AREA!
- Cn Guidry reports good progress on development along the Carrollton corridor, especially the new Winn-Dixie Market being built near the Lafitte Greenway.
- Some free draft stoppers were handed out along with informative “Energy Savings” brochures; we have extras, if you are interested.
I forgot to take any photos (sorry). - Tim G.Next: Someone should host a pot-luck party! (I’ll order the barricades…)

Attempted Armed Robbery at Vincennes & Hewes
Around 4:30pm on Monday (4/16) afternoon, during heavy rains, a young woman was confronted by an armed man in the 3800 block of Vincennes. The perpetrator - a heavy-set African-American male in his 20’s, who had been standing under a nearby car port - approached and attempted to grab the woman’s car keys, at which point she screamed loudly and the assailant fled on foot. Nothing was stolen and thankfully no one was hurt.
Police were summoned and arrived on the scene quickly to file report #D2436212. Crime Lab followed up later that evening to swab for fingerprints. More information to follow.
