Petition: Lower Fontainebleau Speed Limit to 25 MPH
Good afternoon everyone,
If you know me, you know I can get passionate. I have been trying since
August to get the speed limit reduced on Fontainebleau Drive. I started
this endeavor at the end of August. I have written and called my City
Council Member, who has said she would do everything she can to get this
passed, but it is now March 2012 and still nothing has been done! (I
have email streams from her office to prove this!)
I live less than a block away from St. Rita’s School on Fontainebleau
Drive. It is a highly traveled drive as a cut through from Carrollton
to Claiborne or down to Nashville or Napoleon. It is like a speedway
through our neighborhood. Most streets in New Orleans with a similar
layout and scope are marked at 25 mph. Our street is 35 mph the same
speed as Claiborne and Carrollton!!! It doesn’t matter what time of day
or whether it is school hours or not, people will drive over 35 mph.
Because of this we hear a lot of tires screeching to a stop or a crash
from an accident.
It is a hazard and dangerous to the many families that live in the
neighborhood. Not just on Fontainebleau. The drivers will fly down
Fontainebleau, speed into the turns of the cross street they are
accessing. I know there are over 12 children in our neighborhood that
play ball in the streets. I watch children trying to cross
Fontainebleau to go to and from school, thinking it safe, but a car
comes speeding through, then the children have to jump back up on the
curb.
I have created a Petition to see if we can get the City to act on our
need to have our speed limit reduced. There is a little more
information in the petition with some responses from the City’s Chief
Traffic Engineer.
Please sign the petition at:

I need to get a least 100 signatures. Please forward to your friends.
Thanks so much for helping make this neighborhood a little safer!
